Childhood Anxiety & Selective Mutism
With a growing population of individuals identified with anxiety disorders including
Selective Mutism, clinicians are challenged to meet the dynamic needs of these
children. Participants will learn about common misconceptions and primary characteristics. The presenter will explore diagnosis, treatment and classroom interventions. Specific attention will be given to the use of collaboration between caregivers including family, teachers and community supporters. As time allows, participants will discuss managing challenging transitions, as these are often critical junctures in treatment.
Julie is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor. Honored to serve with a leading educational team in Houston, Julie is expected to push the envelope on what is next for teens with social and learning differences. She continuously researches trends on teens with differences and helps provide programming based on needs. She serves the adolescents of Gateway Academy and the families and staff who support them. Julie earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Adult Training and Development, and a Master of Psychology in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Houston.
