Young professionals turn up the heat with fiesta fundraiser
Nothing puts the sizzle into springtime like a fiesta party complete with tacos, ‘ritas and fellow do-gooders. In May, Friends of DePelchin threw its fifth annual fiesta fundraiser, drawing a hoppin’ crowd of more than 150 and raising nearly $8,000 — a record for the Friends group.
At the Uno de Mayo event, held at Hughes Hangar, party-goers mixed and mingled over drinks and chowed down on an extensive taco bar courtesy of Chipotle. Activities included a silent auction and the ever-popular photobooth.
Ellen McCloskey, who leads the Friends, says the night highlighted the draw of a young professionals group with an active membership and meaningful mission.
“We were thrilled to see such a strong turnout of young professionals from across Houston,” she says. “Along with having a great time, we did our part to support the work of DePelchin. It doesn’t get better than that!”
