DePelchin Children's Center Issues Challenge to Community for Child Abuse Prevention Month
Help us tie 5,929 blue ribbons to our fence line for 5,929 victims of child abuse
HOUSTON (April 1, 2014) – DePelchin Children’s Center issued a challenge to the community today for Child Abuse Prevention Month. DePelchin asked people to stand with the 5,929 victims of child abuse in Harris County by helping tie 5,929 ribbons to its fence line at Memorial Drive and Sandman. According to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, there were 5,929 confirmed victims of child abuse or neglect in Harris County last year.
“Child abuse prevention is a cause very important to DePelchin because we see the devastating effects of abuse across all three of our services - mental health, foster care and adoption,” said Jenifer Jarriel, DePelchin president and CEO. “We have set a lofty goal of tying 5,929 ribbons because each ribbon represents a child who cannot speak for themselves. We are challenging the community to join us in giving a voice to these children – our community’s children - who are victims of abuse.”
How people can get involved:
- Bring yourself or bring friends, family, organizations or businesses to come out and tie blue ribbons.
- Tie one ribbon or 100 ribbons. There is no set number and no set time commitment to be a part of this effort.
