Child Abuse Prevention Month- Brownwood
BROWNWOOD (April 1, 2014) – Caring Family Network, an affiliate of DePelchin Children’s Center, is raising awareness this month for the victims of child abuse across the state of Texas.
“It takes the work of the community as a whole when it comes to preventing child abuse,” said Jenifer Jarriel, DePelchin president and CEO. “We must ensure parents have the knowledge and skills necessary to care for their children and we want to the community to know we are a resource when it comes to promoting children’s well-being.”
Interview opportunities to raise awareness of Child Abuse Prevention Month available with Caring Family Network experts regarding:
Signs of physical, emotional and sexual abuse:
- •Unexplained burns, cuts, bruises or welts
- Anti-social behavior and problems in school
- Fear of adults
- Self-destructive or suicidal behavior
- Depression and lack of concentration
- Continually dirty or wearing unsuitable clothing for weather
- Inappropriate interest in or knowledge of sexual acts
What to do if you believe a child is being abused:
- Stay calm and be reassuring
- Listen, but do not press for information
- Call your local police or the Texas Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400
- In an emergency, call 911
