Information on Hurricane Trauma
Hurricanes have touched many lives, and the impact on children can have a life-long effect. DePelchin has developed a guide to help parents and caregivers of children affected by a hurricane.
Changes in children's behavior is normal on occasion. If a child is not bouncing back to their usual behavior after a couple of weeks, that child may need professional help in learning how to cope with thoughts and fears related to the traumatic event. If a child is having difficulty sleeping, nightmares when they do, withdrawing from family and friends, or having unexplainable body aches, they may be experiencing the effects of trauma and need help.
