DePelchin Seeks Houston Area Residents with a Colorful Streak
ArtBridge Volunteer Opportunities with DePelchin

HOUSTON (February 21, 2008) – DePelchin Children’s Center is seeking to artfully inspire Houston-area residents to volunteer with a successful art program in partnership with the Houston-based ArtBridge organization.
Founded in 1999 by two board-certified licensed art therapists, ArtBridge provides art programs for at-risk children as well as homeless children in the Houston area within a supportive environment that encourages creativity. ArtBridge strives to combat despair by nurturing hope and self-esteem through art expression.

“This weekly art-making session offers our children the opportunity to discover their own creative voices,” said Za’ndra Jackson, manager of volunteer and community outreach at DePelchin. “We don’t ask for artistic talent from our volunteers, just a willingness to help and an appreciation for artistic expression.”

ArtBridge is held every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at DePelchin’s Memorial campus. Because the children need consistent role models, a sixth-month commitment to attend one session per week is asked of each ArtBridge volunteer. All training, materials and support are provided by ArtBridge.
If creating a masterpiece is not your particular area of interest, DePelchin also has many other volunteer opportunities. “Our volunteers are essential to the fabric of giving within our organization,” said Curtis C. Mooney, Ph.D., president and CEO of DePelchin Children’s Center. “They are truly an extension of the amazing work we are able to do and always go above and beyond to help bring a smile to a child’s face.”
