“She is one of the few volunteers who comes in twice a week, every week, to help,” said Za’ndra Jackson, manager of Volunteer Services at DePelchin.

It is because of her steadfast dedication that DePelchin gratefully recognizes Jennifer King as a Most Valuable Volunteer (MVV).

On Tuesdays, King serves as a Donation Center volunteer, sorting and organizing donations delivered to the agency. On Thursdays she can be found tackling the Development Office’s file room or supporting the staff by performing other valuable administrative tasks. She frequently fills in for other volunteers, providing coverage wherever it is needed.

King’s volunteerism began as a class requirement while attending UH and pursuing her Criminal Justice degree. She quickly realized how much she enjoyed volunteering and chose to continue her work when the class ended. “I could tell I was making a difference,” she said. “It has been really great to assist the staff by completing projects that have gone unfinished because of time constraints.”

In addition to her volunteer commitment at DePelchin, King has served for many years as a volunteer with Navidad en el Barrio, an organization that sponsors holiday events, scholarships and other programs for people in need.
