Family Connections

Raising children to become responsible adults can be a challenging job! Sometimes families need some additional support, assistance and education. The Family Connections program provides these services and more. The program seeks to increase protective factors such as parenting skills, social support, family functioning and basic needs fulfillment.

The main goal of Family Connections is to identify and address risk factors that could possibly lead to child neglect. Some of these risk factors may include: problem behavior of children, major health issues, depression, stress, substance abuse and dysfunctional parent-child interactions.

Family Connections offers a variety of services at no cost to families that qualify for this program. And best of all, these services are provided in the family’s home and in the community.

Family Connections Services include:

  • Comprehensive family assessment
  • Weekly individual and family counseling
  • Individualized parenting
  • Substance abuse counseling (as needed)
  • Case management
  • Resource linkage
  • Quarterly Multifamily events
  • Advocacy with school and community

Multifamily Events
Multifamily events were created as a way for families to have fun, take a break and meet other families in their community. Families who are participating in the Family Connections program are invited to our Multifamily events, which are held four times a year.  These events are another way the program seeks to increase protective factors in families, and are also a way to just have a good time!

You may qualify for the Family Connections program if your family:

  • Has at least one child between the ages of 5 and 14, and
  •  Lives in Dickinson, San Leon or Bacliff (zip codes 77539 or 77518) or attends a school in Dickinson ISD, and
  •  Has no current involvement with Children’s Protective Services (C.P.S.), and
  •  Has current risk factors present in either the caregiver, child, or both, and
  •  Is willing to participate in a 3 or 6 month program.

Families that qualify and participate in the Family Connections program will receive services for either 3 or 6 months.
