DePelchin Names New Chairman, Board Members

Jim Henderson Named Board Chair, Debbi Johnstone as Vice-Chair and Anne Duncan as Board Secretary

HOUSTON (December 17, 2007) – DePelchin Children’s Center, Houston’s oldest and largest social service organization, names M. James (Jim) Henderson as chairman of the board of directors. Henderson, formerly vice-chair, replaces Tom Bellows who passed away in October.

Jim Henderson, who retired from the Methodist Hospital System, also serves on the boards of Covenant Houston of Texas, St. Luke’s Episcopal Health Charities, Visitors Committee of the South Texas College of Law, Board of Stewards at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, and Lay Delegate of Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. As chairman of DePelchin's 2007 and 2008 board of directors, Mr. Henderson will leverage his community relationships and leadership skills to successfully usher the DePelchin board towards continued excellence in serving area families and children.

“We have been so fortunate to have someone of Jim’s caliber serve on our board,” said Curtis C. Mooney, Ph.D., president and CEO of DePelchin Children’s Center. “His dedication and commitment has long been an asset to DePelchin; we welcome and applaud him in his new position as chair.”

In addition to Henderson’s appointment, DePelchin also names Debbi Johnstone, former board secretary, as vice-chair. Ms. Johnstone is a partner with Vinson and Elkins, L.L.P. and has served on the DePelchin board since 1997. An accomplished lawyer with more than 25 years of experience, Ms. Johnstone’s law practice in Houston focuses on the health care industry and has provided her with a unique insight on family
and children’s services.

Anne S. Duncan, a long-time supporter of DePelchin, has been elected as board secretary. In addition to being a former board chair, Ms. Duncan played an important role in the success of DePelchin’s three-year Building a Better Future capital campaign, which concluded in 2002 and raised more than 15 million dollars. Ms. Duncan also serves on the boards of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Nature Conservancy of Texas, the Houston Zoo and the Yellowstone Park Foundation. She also is involved in the Shepherd Society at Rice University. “We move forward into the coming year with a sense of great excitement and enthusiasm. Though 2007 brought with it a great personal loss for our board, we are blessed to have such a dynamic group of men and women in place to ensure the continued success and well-being of DePelchin,” said Mooney.
