Counseling Services

DePelchin provides an array of counseling and mental health services to address the various types of problems facing children, adolescents and families.

As an essential point on the continuum of care, outpatient services may prevent hospitalization or provide the appropriate aftercare service for hospitalized clients striving to prevent recurring inpatient visits.

Specific treatment services provided include:

  • Individual Therapy
  • Family Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Parenting Skills
  • Psychological Assessment
  • Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling
  • Home Based Counseling
  • Psychiatric Consultation
  • Medication Management
  • Trauma Focused Treatment
Home Based and Community Based Services
For many families, the home is the most appropriate place for services. This allows the clinician to see the family in their natural setting and does not place an undue burden upon families already experiencing a high level of stress.

The interventions used in Home Based Therapy are family focused and build upon the strengths of each individual and the family system. The treatment is competency-based, short-termed and family-directed. The goal is to keep the family intact and support them as they gain skills to parent and cope in this ever-changing culture. The attitude of the clinicians is hopeful, energetic and non-judgmental, offering an environment most conducive for change.

Services are also provided at a number of community locations including homeless shelters, community centers, schools and public clinics.

Family Counseling Services
Family Counseling Services is frequently the most appropriate level of service for children, adolescents, and families facing personal, interpersonal, and social difficulties and impaired functioning in the home, school, and community. Family Counseling Services may include individual, group, and family therapy. The goal of Family Counseling Services is to engage the client and family members in short-term solution focused psychotherapy, while maintaining the client in his/her natural environment during treatment.

Individuals and families desiring services should call:
713-730-2335, or outside the Houston area, 888-730-2335 (toll free)

Trained personnel in the Access Department answer the initial telephone call. Here they will:
  • Determine the general nature, severity and urgency of the problem presented
  • Identify the appropriate service and location
  • Direct the caller to another, more appropriate resource if indicated
  • Determine eligibility for services
  • Obtain demographic, financial and insurance data
  • Schedule the initial appointment
Caring About Your Needs
The primary purpose of Access is to make decisions and dispositions for the child, family, or adult needing counseling service. Staff may recommend contacting another facility should the caller be ineligible or inappropriate for services. Specific clinical recommendations regarding treatment, referral, placement, or clinical disposition are made only on the basis of a personal evaluation. The exception to this involves calls that raise a suspicion of child abuse or neglect. In those cases, the Access Specialist immediately provides the information about the suspected abuse to Children's Protective Services (CPS).

In all cases, a child must be accompanied to the first appointment by at least one parent or legal guardian, or by another adult who can provide written authorization for the interview.
