DePelchin prepares students for future success
This past school year, DePelchin had the privilege of partnering with Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston as a sponsor for its Corporate Work-Study Program. From September through May, five Cristo Rey Jesuit students were given the opportunity to gain real-world job experience by working part-time at DePelchin.
The students, each of whom was assigned a supervisor, worked in various departments at DePelchin, including advancement, foster care recruitment, the executive office, the mailroom and IT.
“It was a privilege to have the students working at our Memorial campus,” says Wanda Woody-Roberts, DePelchin’s senior vice president of human resources and compliance officer. “They were a true asset to our organization, and we hope the experience they gained will further prepare them for success after high school.”
Irma Gaona, administrative assistant for foster care, says the student worker assigned to her, freshman Isabelle Perez, proved to be an invaluable part of the foster care team. From basic filing, to data entry, to preparing training materials, Perez provided key support to the staff.
“Isabelle was a delight to work with,” Gaona says. “I appreciated her attention to detail, her strong work ethic and the professional way in which she handled herself.”
Each of the students received similar praise from their supervisors.
Woody-Roberts says she looks forward to DePelchin’s continued sponsorship with Cristo Rey Jesuit. “DePelchin is proud to be a corporate sponsor with such a great school and to support its mission of empowering students to reach their full potential.”
