DePelchin believes every child deserves a forever family. Through our CPS adoption program, we support couples and individuals wanting to adopt children who are in the custody of Child Protective Services and need a permanent, loving home. Through our private infant adoption program, we support couples and individuals wanting to adopt an infant. In addition, we work with birth parents considering placing their child with a loving, adoptive family.
Children in Need of Adoption
Children of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds need loving adoptive families, specifically:
- Children 2-17 years old
- Sibling groups
- Members of an ethnic minority group
- Children facing physical, mental or emotional challenges because of past abuse or neglect
Adopting through DePelchin
To adopt through either program, prospective parents should meet a number of minimum requirements. The length of the process of adopting and welcoming a child into a family will vary based on circumstances unique to each child. For an overview of the process, visit our Becoming an Adoptive Parent page.
Note: DePelchin is only able to facilitate adoptions for prospective parents currently residing in Greater Houston and its surrounding areas. We cannot facilitate the process for individuals living abroad, even for those who have "primary" or "permanent" residence in Houston.
Support after Adoption
DePelchin understands that the commitment to adopt a child comes with great rewards — and great challenges. That’s why we’re here to support our adoptive families every step of the way. We offer a wide range of post-adoption services aimed at strengthening and preserving families, including individual and group counseling, adoption support groups, parent education resources and 24-hour crisis intervention.
For families who adopt a child in the custody of Child Protective Services, the State of Texas also offers ongoing financial assistance and other benefits for eligible children.
If you are interested in making a difference in a child’s life and joining the DePelchin family, we invite you to attend an informational orientation session at our main campus or at one of our satellite locations. Orientation is required to begin the process of adopting a child.
