Volunteer OppORTUNITIES for Individuals

Listed below are the opportunities available to individual volunteers at DePelchin.  No matter what your skills or time constraints, there is certianly an opportunity for you! 

Individuals interested in becoming a volunteer should first attend a Volunteer Orientation. At Volunteer Orientation we will discuss the agency, available volunteer opportunities, and the volunteer application process which includes an application, training and a background check.  (Volunteers are required to have lived in the US for at least seven years.) 

Adminstrative Volunteer

Volunteers assist staff with administrative tasks in various DePelchin programs and locations. The current administrative placement opportunities include Fund Development, Information & Technology Post Adoption, Foster Care, Volunteer Services, Fort Bend Office, and the Angleton Office.  Each placement has specific duties, including basic filing, computer entry, bulk mailings, and creating client packets.  This is a flexible committment with opportunities on M-F between 8:00am - 5:00pm. Register for Volunteer Orientation


ArtBridge Group VolunteerVolunteers provide an outlet for healthy expression for children in our Residential Treatment Center through art activities and art projects. You do not have to be an artist to participate. This group meets each Thursday from 6-7pm. Register for Volunteer Orientation

Donation Center VolunteerDonation Center Volunteers accept in-kind donations, sorting them and preparing them for clients who need them. This opportunity occurs every 1st & 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:00am-12pm, however, volunteer schedule is flexible during weekdays. Elkins Residential Treatment TutorVolunteers in our on-campus school provide our children with one-on-one attention and tutoring in math, reading, writing and other schoolwork. This is a two hour weekly committment with shifts available M-F between 8:00am-3:00pm. Register for Volunteer Orientation

Foster Care Playday Volunteer

Volunteers provide positive interaction and fun activities for our foster children while waiting to see their phsycian for a check-up. This opportunity occurs every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Shifts are available. Register for Volunteer Orientation


Mentor Volunteer

Volunteers will provide enrichment and leadership skills to children and youth who need positive role models in their lives. The mentor placement volunteer will work with kids currently residing in foster care or a residential treatment center. This is a flexible commitment Monday through Sunday. Register for Volunteer Orientation


Playroom VolunteerVolunteers provide positive interaction and fun activities for our foster care children while foster parents participate in training. This is a flexible commitment, with opportunities Tuesday-Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m. Register for Volunteer Orientation

Reading Nook VolunteerVolunteers read stories to children as they wait in the lobby of DePelchin. At the end of each story time, volunteers help the children choose a book to take home. Volunteers commit to a minimum of one weekday evening a month for an hour between 3:00pm - 7:00pm. Register for Volunteer Orientation

Residential Treatment Group VolunteerOn Monday evenings volunteers visit the Residential Treatment Center and organize educational and recreational activities for the children whose ages range from 13 to 17. This is a weekly committment occurring Mondays from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Register for Volunteer Orientation

Richmond Residential Treatment Group volunteerThese volunteers will plan activities and interact with children ages 5-12 years old.  They will also be a positive mentor and caring adult for the youth living at the center.  This group meets on Monday nights from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Richmond Residential Treatment TutorMany of the children at the Richmond center have learning problems and would benefit greatly from caring individuals who are willing to sit down with them and help with their school work.  Volunteers in this placement can choose any two hour shift, Monday to Friday, 8:00am-3:00pm. Satellite Hospitality VolunteerThese volunteers plan and implement activities for the children who come to the different satellite offices for counseling. Activities include greeting new children, developing activities for children waiting in the lobby, and overseeing the playroom area. This opportunity occurs Thursdays, twice a month from 3:00pm-5:00pm or 5:00pm-8:00pm. Volunteers may choose which satellite office in which to work: Baytown, Clear Lake, The Woodlands, or Fort Bend.
